Who calls for cores, and why batching wins
Plumbers core for drains, vents and stack penetrations. Electricians core for conduit runs and floor boxes. Mechanical crews core for line sets, duct and equipment anchors. Restaurateurs and clinic buildouts along the Flowood corridor core for everything at once, which is exactly when the batch line earns its keep: the rig sets up once and each additional hole prices at $75 to $150 instead of a fresh service call. The scan question, answered before it hurts
A core bit does not care what it meets, which is why the slab’s contents matter more than its thickness. Rebar is normal and cores through it cleanly. Embedded electrical conduit, in-slab plumbing and post-tension tendons are the strikes that turn a $400 hole into a four-figure repair, so older slabs, plant floors around Clinton and Canton and anything suspect get scanned first as a named pass-through. What sizes can you core?
The working range covers the trades: from small anchor and sample cores up through the 8 to 14 inch diameters that plumbing stacks and duct penetrations want. Diameter, depth and orientation set the per-hole price on the published sheet, and batches always beat singles because the setup cost is paid once.
Can you drill through walls and overhead, not just floors?
Yes. Rigs anchor to vertical and overhead surfaces, and wall or ceiling cores simply price toward the top of the band because rigging and water control take longer. Poured walls, block, brick and suspended decks are all routine.
How clean is the hole, really?
A cored hole is round, smooth-walled and exactly the bit's diameter, which is the whole point: sleeves fit, firestop seals correctly and inspectors see a penetration made on purpose. Hammer-drilled clusters and burst-out backs are what coring exists to replace.
What about the water coring makes?
It gets managed, not left. Cores run wet by design, the slurry gets vacuumed at the hole and occupied spaces get containment per the occupied-site line on the sheet. Finished spaces below a deck core get protection before the bit starts, because surprise water through a ceiling is a rookie signature.
